As Promised

The Comic Sans Monologue

  1. Oh, man, this is absolutely brilliant. I honestly laughed out loud, and few things I read on a computer screen actually illicit this reaction. The author's personification of an entirely intangible object is clever and cheeky and fabulously hilarious. I think the most charming thing about this piece, and what makes much of any type of expressive art humorous, is how real it is. The note about bathroom etiquette, the science fair, the hipster Macbookers - it draws from a world that we all know and relate to but that isn't outwardly mentioned in real life. It was also amusing to picture typed letters shredding on a Stratocaster, banging the prom queen, and getting hammered with each other. This would make an awesome cartoon.

  2. I loved this. For some reason, seeing anything comic sans illicits a gag reflex and immediate judgement but I don't really know WHY. At least, I didn't know why but now I do. I agree with everything Brittany said. I particularly loved the hipster Macbook comment. Laugh out loud excellent.

  3. I was going over stories to critique when I saw brittney's comment about this being absolutely brilliant. I was sold, and after reading it I totally motherfucking agree. So often, short stories and their writers, seem to take themselves too seriously. Does this story follow that trend? Think again, nerdhole. This is a completely hilarious jab at the very nature of seriousness. Ascribing personalities to fonts is an original and unique way to make fun of everyone who uses them, i.e. everyone. Well played, comic sans... Well played.
